Come learn the fun and messy techniques behind creating unique paintings with fluid acrylics. We will focus on one simple recipe that can be used for multiple techniques. We will create two paintings on canvases using the "dirty pour" and "ring pour" techniques. Every fluid acrylic painting is one of a kind -- it is impossible to create the same painting twice! Please note that you will not walk out the door with your paintings the day of the workshop; because of the amount of water used in fluid acrylic recipes, the paintings must dry for three to five days before they can be transported. Fluid art is inherently messy, so wear clothing you won't mourn if you get paint on it!

"Painting with paper" is a specialized, fine-art style of collage. While standard collage often combines unrelated cut-out images or flat papers to create a composition, painting with paper focuses on using hand-torn, textured, or translucent papers specifically like brushstrokes of paint. Artists, like Gail, blend colors, build gradients, and layer organic fibers to mimic the depth, shading, and texture of a traditional oil or watercolor painting.

Whether you are an experienced painter looking for a fresh medium or a beginner eager to explore texture and color, this class offers a relaxed, inspiring space to explore a unique art form. All materials are included, along with a special invitation to bring any personal papers with you that you might want to incorporate into your unique piece.

The week is done, the leaves are turning, and the evening is yours. Join us for a calm, cozy pause the night before Halloween: an hour of gentle, restorative yoga, followed by apple cider, light bites, and unhurried creative time alongside good company. 

First hour | Restorative Yoga
We will start with a slow, supportive practice of stillness, breath, and gentle movement, informed by TCTSY (Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga), focusing on internal awareness rather than external performance. Movement will be offered with a mat-based practice in mind, but you're always welcome to adapt it in a chair or in any way that feels right for you. You are the expert of your own body, so everything offered is an invitation. There are no physical hands-on adjustments and nothing to get right. No yoga experience needed. 

Second hour | Light bites, Community, & Art-Making
We will share seasonal snacks and community connection as we shift into open, informal creating. Feel free to bring a project you're already working on (knitting, sketching, journaling, anything!) or explore our studio supplies. All art supplies are provided, and no artistic skill is required. 

As always, we care about the process, not the outcome. The facilitator is happy to offer guidance if you would like it, and skill-sharing is welcome, too. 

What to wear and bring
Wear comfortable clothes you can fully relax in. Mats, light cushions, and chairs are available, but you're welcome to bring your own mat, supports, or a favorite blanket or cozy layer for extra comfort.

Brighten up your favorite indoor space with a touch of handmade charm! In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will learn the basics of fused glass art while designing a beautiful, custom tea light holder.

We will guide you through cutting glass, choosing your colors, layering shapes, and assembling your piece for the kiln. Your unique design will create a stunning, warm glow once illuminated by candle fire, making it the perfect accent for a tabletop, mantle, or window sill.

No prior glassmaking experience is necessary. We welcome all skill levels as we enjoy learning from and inspiring each other. All the essential basics of glass art and safety will be covered before diving into the hands-on creation process. Once assembled, your piece will be transported by the facilitator to be placed in the kiln for firing, and you will be able to pick up your finished creation back at the Blooming Peace Studio within 7 to 10 days.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the shekere! This versatile percussion instrument, originating from West Africa, is made from a dried gourd covered with a net of beads. It produces a unique rattling and shaking sound that can add incredible texture and rhythm to any musical setting.

In this lesson, we'll cover the fundamentals to get you started including: holding the shekere, basic sounds, and a few introductory rhythms.

What you'll need:

• A shekere!

Although she doesn’t consider herself the most accomplished artist or musician, Tami has a deep passion for rhythm. For years, she made the weekly trek to NYC to study with the inspiring African percussionist Madeleine Yayodele Nelson. This transformative experience now fuels her desire to share the shekere and what she learned from Madeleine with others who may benefit from its creation and unique sounds.

Looking for a way to unwind from stress, focus your thoughts, or explore your creative side? In this class you will learn Map Tangling, a creative and relaxing method of Zentangle art. By using this method, easy-to-learn repetitive patterns (called tangles) and deliberate pen strokes along with a splash of watercolor, you will create an abstract piece of art while entering into a relaxed and meditative state. You do NOT need to know how to draw! Zentangle has the potential to deliver artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal well-being.

Come learn the fun and messy techniques behind creating unique paintings with fluid acrylics. (NOTE: We recommend that you attend Fluid Acrylics—Intro 1 before taking the Intro 2 class). We will continue the same recipe used in the Intro 1 class.

In this class we will use two different swiping techniques to achieve different effects in our paintings. Every fluid acrylic painting is one of a kind -- it is impossible to create the same painting twice!

Please note that you will not walk out the door with your paintings the day of the workshop; because of the amount of water used in fluid acrylic recipes, the paintings must dry for three to five days before they can be transported. Fluid art is inherently messy, so wear clothing you won't mourn if you get paint on it!

The week is done, the leaves are falling, and the evening is yours. Join us for a calm, cozy pause the week before Thanksgiving: an hour of gentle, restorative yoga, followed by apple cider or herbal tea, light bites, and unhurried creative time alongside good company. 

First hour | Restorative Yoga
We will start with a slow, supportive practice of stillness, breath, and gentle movement, informed by TCTSY (Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga), focusing on internal awareness rather than external performance. Movement will be offered with a mat-based practice in mind, but you're always welcome to adapt it in a chair or in any way that feels right for you. You are the expert of your own body, so everything offered is an invitation. There are no physical hands-on adjustments and nothing to get right. No yoga experience needed. 

Second hour | Light bites, Community, & Art-Making
We will share seasonal snacks and community connection as we shift into open, informal creating. Feel free to bring a project you're already working on (knitting, sketching, journaling, anything!) or explore our studio supplies. All art supplies are provided, and no artistic skill is required. 

As always, we care about the process, not the outcome. The facilitator is happy to offer guidance if you would like it, and skill-sharing is welcome, too. 

What to wear and bring
Wear comfortable clothes you can fully relax in. Mats, light cushions, and chairs are available, but you're welcome to bring your own mat, supports, or a favorite blanket or cozy layer for extra comfort.

Ring in the festive holiday season by making holiday cards. Etegami is the Japanese art of making postcards. You will be able to send your postcards through the USPS or even to Japan. If you wish, we can personalize the activity to include the upcoming winter holidays. Blank watercolor paper greeting cards and envelopes will be provided to paint and create homemade cards for family, friends, and loved ones.

Unleash your inner rhythm and connect with the vibrant traditions of West African music in this hands-on shekere-making workshop! The shekere, a captivating percussion instrument crafted from a gourd and adorned with a beaded net, is a staple in many cultures in Africa and South America. In this workshop, you'll learn the essential steps to create your very own playable shekere, ready to bring unique textures and sounds to your musical explorations.

Although she doesn’t consider herself the most accomplished artist or musician, Tami has a deep passion for rhythm. For years, she made the weekly trek to NYC to study with the inspiring African percussionist Madeleine Yayodele Nelson. This transformative experience now fuels her desire to share the shekere and what she learned from Madeleine with others who may benefit from its creation and unique sounds.

What you'll learn and do:

• Gourd Preparation: Discover how to select, clean, and prepare gourds for shekere construction, ensuring proper resonance and durability.

• Netting Techniques: Master the fundamental knotting and weaving techniques required to create a sturdy and aesthetically pleasing net that holds the beads securely.

• Bead Selection & Application: Explore various types of beads, shells, or other resonant materials suitable for shekeres, and learn how to attach them effectively to the net for optimal sound.

• Finishing Touches: Understand how to properly tension the net and add any final embellishments to personalize your instrument.

• Cultural Context: Gain an appreciation for the history, cultural significance, and diverse uses of the shekere in various musical traditions.

Join us for our Fused Glass Wind Chime Workshop, where you will discover the magic of shaping glass with heat. In this beginner-friendly class, you will design and build a beautiful, custom wind chime that catches both the light and the breeze. Handcrafting a one-of-a-kind piece is a fantastic way to unplug, get creative, and make a stunning, personalized present that someone special will treasure for years to come.

No prior glassmaking experience is necessary. We welcome all skill levels as we enjoy learning from and inspiring each other. All the essential basics of glass art and safety will be covered before diving into the hands-on creation process. Once assembled, your piece will be transported by the facilitator to be placed in the kiln for firing, and you will be able to pick up your finished creation back at the Blooming Peace Studio within 7 to 10 days.

Community Studio is designed for makers, dreamers, and artists seeking a dedicated space to breathe life into their projects. This is not just time to work; it is an intentional gathering designed to foster connection with fellow creatives in a warm, supportive environment.

Bring your current passion project or come explore options to get started on one. Settle into the collective energy of a relaxing artistic space. While this time is self-directed, you are never truly on your own. Each facilitator brings their own creative strengths to the studio, offering a different experience each day of the week. Group guidance, casual mentoring, and informal skill-building naturally weave through each session. Whether you are looking to troubleshoot a technique, share a breakthrough, or simply create in the company of kindred spirits, you will belong to a community that inspires you.

Come as you are, connect authentically, and create beautifully.

Looking for a way to unwind from stress, focus your thoughts, or explore your creative side? In this class you will learn the basics of Zentangle’s creative and relaxing method of art. By using this method, easy-to-learn repetitive patterns (called tangles) and deliberate pen strokes, you will create an abstract piece of art while entering into a relaxed and meditative state. You do NOT need to know how to draw! Zentangle has the potential to deliver artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal well-being.

A $15.00 supply fee for a Zentangle Kit is payable to the instructor. If you already have your own Zentangle supplies, feel free to bring and use them.

AGE-RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Ages 18+

When the storm passes, the real work of living begins. In this two-hour workshop, we read The Whispering Benches, a storybook by local author Cynthia Rafetto Kreilick, about a Haitian earthquake survivor who recovers his strength through faith, friendship and meaningful work in the City of Philadelphia.

Through guided reading, discussion and creative expression, we explore how resilience can grow after tragedy, and identify the supports in our own lives that create the conditions for this to happen. Participants receive a complimentary copy of the book.

The Whispering Benches was inspired by Cynthia’s work with Haitian men and women, displaced by the 2010 earthquake, who came to Philadelphia to rebuild their lives. She helped them get licensed to open family child care programs.
