The Art of Embodiment - Movement, Mindfulness, & Creative Flow

DATE: Sunday, May 18, 2025

TIME: 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM

FACILITATOR: Ashley Sonson and Daune Marie

In these 1 ½ hour weekly classes, we invite gentle, invitational, trauma-sensitive movement and mindful awareness for the first half hour before transitioning into exploring creative techniques such as collage, painting, or writing, etc. for the last hour.

No previous yoga or art experience necessary! The movement practice is open to all people regardless of age, gender identity, race, ethnicity, body type, and physical ability.*

All activities can be geared to the participants and their preferences.  All activities are by invitation, not demand.  For example, you may decide not to participate in the movement practice. Or, you may want to continue to explore movement on your own as others move into the art activity –it’s always your choice, and your choice is welcome!

More about the movement
— The practice is based on TCTSY trauma-sensitive yoga, which invites the exploration of body-based yoga forms and breathing practices with invitational language.  It emphasizes your internal experience, not on how a movement looks or “doing it right” for the facilitator or anyone else.

We believe each person is the expert of their own body, and there are no physical hands-on adjustments. All movement is invitational. Participants are welcome to use a chair or a mat as they prefer.  The facilitator will reach out to new participants for a brief conversation to answer any questions about the movement portion of the class.

More about the art— Creating something without judgment or attachment to the outcome helps us build up the courage to be present and open while welcoming the unexpected because it can be hard being human! Movement and creative expression practices in a nonjudgmental environment can help with managing difficult feelings and stress, and supporting connection, self-compassion, insight, reflection, and agency.

All art supplies provided. We have limited extra mats for those interested in using them during our movement practice. You are welcome to bring your own if you would like. Chairs and cushions are available to all.

*PLEASE NOTE: Our studio space is only accessible by way of stairs with a railing. This is not a substitute for therapy, so please reach out to a therapist or medical provider if you are experiencing ongoing mental health challenges.

TIME: 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

FACILITATOR: Various

Therapists, social workers, healthcare providers, clergy, veterans, caregivers, and other helping professionals—for all you do, this one is for YOU! This is a time and space for you to step into the studio to be with folks from like-minded professions, and to be honored, inspired, and nurtured from the brink of burnout. Don’t let your deep well of compassion run dry. Whether you call it preventative maintenance or a creative play date, we encourage you to schedule time for yourself to pause, create, and restore.

NEW PROJECT/THEME EACH WEEK—All who come will have the opportunity to make something by experimenting with various art materials and supplies provided. This is a chance for studio friends, both new and regulars, to connect in community, engage in meaningful conversations, tap into their creative selves, and share new creations. Invitational prompts and gentle guidance will be offered to help get you started if you are at a loss of where to begin.

No experience necessary—YOU CAN’T DO IT WRONG! You may also use this time as an Open Studio to continue working on your own projects that you bring with you.

Deadline to register is 4/30. If you have missed the deadline, please contact us to see if space is available.

The Art of Embodiment - Movement, Mindfulness, & Creative Flow

DATE: Sunday, April 27, 2025

If this class is of interest to you but the time doesn’t fit into your schedule, please contact us via our website. Private individual sessions are available.

Deadline to register is by 4/25.

The movement practice is based on TCTSY trauma-sensitive yoga, which invites the exploration of body-based yoga forms and breathing practices with invitational language, emphasizing the internal experience of the participant, not the appearance of a movement or the facilitator’s approval. The practice is open to all people regardless of age, gender identity, race, ethnicity, body type, and *physical ability. We believe each person is the expert of their own body, and there are no physical hands-on adjustments. All movement is invitational. Participants are welcome to use a chair or a mat as they prefer.
