10/11—FUSED GLASS: Kiln-Carved Small Picture to Hang

$45.00

DATE: Sunday, October 11th

TIME: 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM

FACILITATOR: Barbara Neale

CLASS SIZE: Limited to 8 participants

AGE REQUIRMENTS: 18+ only as we will be working with broken glass

MATERIALS FEE: A separate $25 materials fee is payable in cash to the facilitator at the workshop

OCTOBER is all about carving—so let’s carve some glass! Kiln carving is an exciting process where you place a dimensional pattern underneath glass before it gets fused in a high-temperature kiln. The result is a beautifully textured, custom shape that looks as though it was meticulously hand-carved into the glass itself.

In this three-hour workshop, you will learn how to cut patterns into specialized ceramic fiber paper, stack your glass on top, and prepare it to be fired. During the firing process, the heated glass softens and conforms perfectly to the contours and textures of your underlying design. Fiber paper comes in different widths and can be cut into shapes and stacked to form shapes.

Participants will create their own 6X6 design and finished pieces may be framed to be hung. You can bring your own Halloween design or pictures of flowers and animals. Some templates of designs will be available as well. An X-Acto knife will be provided to cut details. Once assembled, your creation will be placed in the kiln for firing, and you will be able to pick up your finished creation within 7 to 10 days.

No prior glassmaking experience is necessary. We will cover all the essential basics of glass art before diving into the hands-on creation process.

Please register by October 6th. Spaces are limited, so register early to secure your spot! If you have missed the deadline, please contact us to see if space is available or get on the waiting list.
