9/29 – Poetry with Marla: Haiku and Tanka
DATE: Monday, September 29
TIME: 1:30PM - 3:30 PM
FACILITATOR: Marla Greenberg
ACTIVITY: Poetry with Marla: Haiku and Tanka, and Creative Expression
This poetry workshop, led by Marla Greenberg, offers participants a creative exploration of various poetic forms combined with artistic activities. The sessions emphasize writing and illustrating poetry, fostering expression and reflection in a supportive environment.
Session 1 – Haiku and Tanka: We will start with deep breathing and introductions to settle in the space and to extend and receive welcome. Next, we'll learn and write Haiku and Tanka poems using imagery and flexible line patterns. The session includes sharing poetry books, creating illustrations, and making a miniature book of poems to take home, along with optional sharing and reflecting.
Example:
White Camellias falling
the only sound in the
moonlit evening
-Ranko
After writing three or four poems, we will use the materials that you have brought or materials that are part of the studio to illustrate our poems.
We will be invited to share our poetry and illustrations. No pressure, it is completely your choice. We welcome feedback, and everyone will have an opportunity at the end to share feelings and thoughts about this studio activity. Additional sessions with other styles of poetry are being offered in the coming months.
The deadline to register is 9/27. If you have missed the deadline, please contact us to see if space is available.
PLEASE NOTE: You must register to obtain the access code to the studio as we are in a secure building.
If finances are keeping you from coming, please contact us. We believe in the art of abundance and have an Art Angel Scholarship Fund to keep us in the flow state.
